Mystory@Tanya Therese Baiju: How I chose my course and college
Taking up English Literature for my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, was a spur of the moment decision. I was a Science student in XII. I was horrible in Maths. Somehow I knew that was not me. I was the day dreamer of my class, the kind of person targeted by flying chalk. Plus, my friends had figured this out earlier and told me to switch to English language. I was an avid reader by then interested in nothing else but fiction. So, I told my parents. It took me a lot of courage to do so. But they were very supportive of me.
My college life
Luckily, that was how I ended up in St. Joseph's College with handful of books and a heart full of dreams. But what greeted me there was criticisms, theories, and confusing narratives. I found my strength with help of my teachers. Passing through a colourful yet with shades of grey was my undergraduate years.

Then I got admission at Union Christian College, Aluva. The setting being entirely different than St. Joseph's College, as it was co-ed. Here, I had a new set of challenges to face in the form of seminars, assignments, brilliant classmates and so on. But I am proud to say that I stuck though it all. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my dearest friends, family and my wonderful professors. Looking back now, I would gladly live through each of those experiences. I am truly grateful to God for the happy memories and my not-so-happy memories. I wouldn't change it for the world.
Looking back now, I know that I was truly blessed as a student. For both of my undergraduate and postgraduate years, I had the best faculty. I find no fault with my teachers. They were very hardworking and dedicated professionals. In fact, I was even encouraged to follow their footsteps. I had a real bad case of stage fright but they made me do all my seminars and laid much of ground work for improvement. I can never forget them. I spent almost 4 years of my college life in hostels. It was a lot of fun. From making Maggie to chapatis, I was definitely able to appreciate cooking more. All those study groups and late night movie marathons, those really were fun times.
