Mystory@Kavithra S: How I selected my college and course

Antony's portentous speech about Ceaser's brutal murder in the play "Julius Ceaser" by world's renowned playwright and poet William Shakespeare still remains as one of the finest speech in the history of English Language. Antony's epic speech was the reason I got attracted towards the richness of English Language. And this is how I decided to pursue English Literature as my stream of study for my undergraduate studies. From my high school days, I wished to join the most popular women's college in and around Chennai. But the one college which attracted me the most was Stella Maris.

The very first time I entered the college campus, my intuition told me that this was the college for me. Since I secured good marks in one of the government exams, securing admission was not much of a trouble. In that moment, I realized that all this was the result of my hard work, the blessings of my parents and God. All these help you achieve what you want in life. A lot of people around me believe that people’s true talent can never be recognised without they do not have money and a powerful background. But this is not true. With hard-work and dedication, we can achieve everything we want in life.

Initially, it was tough for me to adjust to the college environment. Everything was new. I was confused and scared. Everything I loved became alienated. I began to dislike my college within a few months because the classes were of long duration, the teachers were called professors and my favourite author Shakespeare became complicated to understand. I wanted to quit.

Like a "guiding star" in the dark night Aiji George ma’am’s attention and care rejuvenated my broken interests and developed my love back for Literature. With her support and guidance, I began to study well and participate in various extra-curriculur activities. I am now a member of the Rotary club of my college.
