Mystory@Nupur Rastogi: How I selected my course and made my career
It was not easy to choose between Commerce and Science, however, the option for Arts was non-existent. I was much more interested in Arts subjects but the societal pressure made me opt for Commerce and I ended up studying Accountancy and Economics in Class 11 and 12.
The best days arrived with college not because of the friends and the carefree life but the subject that I chose to study for the next 3 years. As I got the opportunity to choose an Arts subject, I chose Honours in English. English, being the global language, fascinated me the most.
I could have taken admission in Hansraj College according to the merit list but my lack of awareness about the proper admission process of University of Delhi made me skip that and I landed at Kalindi College which for sure did not disappoint me.

The college life should be an asset to your knowledge and it showed its worth in my subject. I was fortunate enough to have amazing professors and never missed Literary Theory classes which is my favourite section in Literature. The timings were usually 8am to 4pm with breaks between classes, which we usually spent in the canteen. I am glad to say that the college has satisfying infrastructure, with a big auditorium, labs, garden and canteen.
I remember the college fest where I volunteered twice in the hospitality department as well as the literature department events. I believe that a good college and a bunch of quality professors can create a good base for the future.
I was always inclined towards reading Arts subjects and with time, English took over as my favourite. I always knew that I could do a lot with Honours in English in hand, either in writing, journalism, publishing or education field.
I would like to advice others that after English Honours, one must gain some experience before pursuing Masters in English. It makes a good combination for various career prospects ahead.
