There are a very few students who take up Social sciences as a career option these days. What we tend to forget that even this field is financially rewarding and personally fulfilling. It is no longer confined to the conventional definition of being involved in charity of welfare-oriented organisations, but includes various dynamics such as providing managing assistance, helping in educational or healthcare programmes or providing assistance in welfare activities such as the protection of children and women.

Eligibility:
- Candidates who have completed their XII standard examination are eligible for Graduation
- For PG programmes, candidates who have completed their graduation in Sociology or Social Sciences are preferred. However, graduation in other streams is also admissible in many colleges offering such post-graduate programmes
- Students who have completed their post-graduation or M.A. in Social Work can further undertake doctoral studies.

Job Prospects and Remuneration:
The main source of employments for academician is Colleges and Universities and that is as Lecturers and professors. With administrative abilities and interest may go on to the posts of a principal, vice-chancellor or other designations in the management level. Sociologists may find employment in fields such as social work, public policy, criminal justice, human resources or industrial relations. The results of sociological research aid educators, lawmakers, administrators, and others who are interested in resolving social problems and formulating public policy. At entry level lecturers draw a salary of Rs.6, 500 to Rs.10, 500 per month which increases with experience and qualification. The starting salary for social scientist is somewhere in between Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 per month and may go on to peak salaries of over Rs 50 lac per annum
