Chevening-TCS Cyber Programme Scholarships
The 'Chevening-TCS Cyber Programme’, recently launched by the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in collaboration with UK's Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), is expected to be the world's first cyber security and public policy education programme.
The programme lays emphasis on the technical side of cyber security along with collaborating together the related areas of public policy, such as internet governance, national security, crime prevention, and enabling online commerce and freedom of expression.
Though the curriculum of the scholarship is conceptualized by TCS and the FCO, the detailed course will be developed and taught by Cranfield University - which boasts significant expertise in the areas of cyber security and global security - on its campus at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom at Shrivenham.
Eligibility:
The scholarship targets outstanding Indian mid-career professionals working in diverse fields from the private sector, government, public sector, law enforcement/ judiciary, or academia, with leadership potential and relevant experience.
Applicants should possess the following:

- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances not only in technical and professional terms but also culturally.
Programme structure:
The first year will include six Indian nationals being selected to undergo a 12 week programme in the UK. Structured to run for an initial period of three years, the first course is expected to commence in February 2014.
Areas to be covered under the programme:
- Cyber threats, including: the threat landscape, threat and risk assessment, the implications for national security, and the relevance of internet governance structures; and the protection of critical national infrastructure;
- The economics of online business, cyber security consumer awareness and consumer protection, technology adoption challenges, the relevance of open source, and effective technology adoption by consumers;
- Cyber crime and Internet law, including the economic impact of cyber crime, domestic and international approaches to countering cyber crime, Internet law, law enforcement concerns, privacy concerns, the use and abuse of social media, and accountability in cyberspace;
- Relevant issues and challenges particular to the UK and India.
The scholarship covers the following:
- Full Programme fees
- Living expenses for the duration of the Scholarship for a maximum period of 16 weeks
- Return airfare from India to the UK
- UK Student Visa
