IIIT gets a new campus in Okhla
A new campus of the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) has been inaugurated at Okhla. The institute has been functioning from the NSIT in Dwarka since 2008.
Inaugurating the new campus, Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit said that the state government will do its best in making the institute one of the best in the world to offer the latest knowledge in the field of IT. She also announced that students from Delhi government schools who get admitted to the institute would be given free education at the institute. The institute which had been declared a state University has already earned a special recognition as a premier institute. According to the CM, the state would support all research programmes of the institute with no lack of funds for its growth.
Praising the administration of the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Dixit said that the institute has attracted the best international faculty in just four years of its existence. According to officials of Education department, the first batch of the students passed out in 2012 with more than 98% placement in reputed companies with an average pay package of Rs 10 lakh p.a.
A foot-over-bridge is to be constructed connecting the new campus to the Okhla Metro station. The state is planning to put in a total of Rs 250 crore in the second phase expansion of the campus which will begin shortly.
