NIMCET 2012 scheduled for May 20

NIMCET (National Institute of Technology MCA Common Entrance Test) is a national level entrance test conducted by National Institutes of Technology and taken by aspirants seeking admission to MCA courses offered by selected NIT's across the country. These selected NITs include centres at Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Calicut, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli and Warangal. Scheduled for May 20 this year, NIMCET 2012 will be conducted by NIT Bhopal (also known as Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal).

 

Admission to these NITs is based on the ranked obtained in NIMCET, 2012. The curricula imparted to the students are structured in accordance with the needs of various IT firms in India and abroad. This further endows MCA graduates with huge prospects of acquiring jobs in the IT sector.

 

Entry requirements:

 

• Applicants must be an Indian National
• Applicants must have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in +2 examinations with Math being one on the main subjects
• Applicants must own a Bachelor's degree from a recognized University/College with 60% marks in any of the subjects listed below:

 

1. Elementary Mathematics
2. Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science
3. Business Statistics
4. Computational Mathematics
5. Business Mathematics
6. Mathematics
7. Discrete Mathematics
8. Computer Science
9. Computer Applications

 

• Applicants, who have taken their senior secondary exam without mathematics, must pass the single mathematics exam conducted by open schools at State or Central Board. These results are also considered when applicants are applying for the exam.
• Final year graduates too can apply for the NIMCET examination. 

 

Pattern/ Structure:

 

A multiple choice objective type test of two and a half hours, this exam features 120 questions divided over 4 sections:

Each correctly answered question would carry four marks and any question answered incorrectly would be liable for one negative mark. NIMCET 2012 will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

• Co-ordinate Geometry

 

Analytical ability & Logical Reasoning: This section basically covers logical situation and questions  based on the facts given in the passage. (Know more)

 

Computer awareness: This section tests a candidate's knowledge level in :

• Data representation
• Memory
• Truth Table
• Venn Diagram
• Binary Arithmetic

 

General English: The last section subjectively examines an applicant's proficiency and command on  General language. It encompasses topics like:

 

• Basic English Structure
• Grammar
• Punctuations
• Articles prepositions
• Idioms and phrases
• Synonyms and Antonyms
