For all the aspiring computer software programmers, Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) is a good course. It will create a strong foundation for computer programming languages. The course is among one of the most popular courses at the graduation level. Many students wonder what can be the career after BCA, it can give you a good start in the computer field but it doesn't promise high paying jobs straightaway in the starting. - Software Developer: The job responsibilities include designing, developing and testing software and computer applications. The software developers direct and participate in the programming activities. Moreover, they evaluate and monitor system performance, design and implement new features and programs. The job titles for this role may vary in different companies. A software engineer is one the most common title given to this post. The system developer must build and implement functional programs and work closely with Product Managers and other Developers throughout the life cycle of the software development. One must also be able to integrate software components of the third-party programs, debug, troubleshoot and upgrade existing software. The role also requires one to create technical documentation for reporting and reference. The skills required are knowledge of coding, agile development methodologies, databases and Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks. The person must have excellent communication skills, the ability to learn new languages and technologies and should give attention to detail. The average base pay of a Software Developer is Rs 6L per year.
- Technical Support Trainee: They maintain, manage and repair IT systems. The job responsibilities also include diagnosing and repairing faults, installing and configuring hardware and software and resolving network issues. One needs to troubleshoot technical issues, support the roll-out of new applications, and provide timely customer feedback. The job role requires finding software and hardware solutions, installing and configuring software and hardware, replacing or repairing the parts, supporting procedural documentation, testing and evaluating new technologies, and managing multiple cases at one time. To work as a technical support trainee, one must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The average annual salary is Rs 4 lakh per annum.
- Web Developer: The job responsibilities include creating well designed, efficient and testable code, creating website layout/user interfaces using standard HTML/CSS practices and integrating data from databases and back-end services. Web Developer must create and maintain software documentation, gather and refine requirements and specifications. The responsibilities also include coordinating with web designers and maintaining, expanding and scaling the website. The required skills are good programming skills, in-depth knowledge of modern HTML/CSS, understanding of working of web applications including session management, security, and best development practices. One must have hands-on experience with network analytics tools and network diagnostics, should have basic knowledge of the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) process. The average annual salary of a Web Developer is Rs 3 lakh/per annum.
- IT Analyst: The job role requires overseeing system upgrades, prioritizing user requirements, and researching new tools. One needs to have excellent communication skills and the person should be highly analytical to understand the business requirements. Hands-on experience with technical projects is required and one must also have problem-solving abilities. The other responsibilities include communicating with stakeholders, developing and analysing functional specifications, designing efficient IT systems, integrating multiple systems, gathering feedback from end-users, providing advice and technical training and planning and overseeing projects. The skills required are experience in project management, troubleshooting skills, system security, and knowledge of databases, analytical mindset and problem-solving aptitude. The average annual salary of an IT Analyst is Rs 6 lakh/per annum.
After doing BCA, one can either do some technical jobs in IT companies or they can also go for higher studies like MCA or MBA. One can start as a Junior Data Scientist after BCA or do a diploma or masters in Digital Marketing after BCA or pursue a short-term online cybersecurity course to become a Cyber Security Professionals.
