As we had alerted you earlier, The Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai has released the CEED exam results for the year 2011. The results are currently available on the official website of IIT Mumbai.

Students who wish to check the results will be required to input their registration number to view the result. Students should also verify their email address, as the IIT would be sending a mail to students who have passed the entrance exam. It should be noted that passing the CEED is just the first step; since it is not a guarantee for admission in IIT.

The Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) as the name suggests is a common entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology under the auspices of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Students who are interested in taking the Master of Design (M.Des.) can write this qualifying exam. The Master of Design (M.Des.) programme is available in IIT Mumbai, IIT Bangalore, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwhati and IIT Kanpur.

The eligibility criteria for the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) are that the applicant should have a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent degree in Engineering, Architecture or Interior Design. Diploma Courses such as Professional Diploma of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT which is a 5 year course are also accepted as qualifying criteria to apply for this course. Students who have completed their B.F.A. (4 year programme) or G.D. Art (5 year programme after completing 10th standard) are eligible for the CEED. Students who have completed their Master's Degree in Arts, Science or Computer Applications are also eligible. Candidates need to have a minimum of 55% in their qualifying exams.

The Master of Design programme offers the following subjects of study to its students: Industrial Design, Mobility & Vehicle Design, Visual Communication, Animation and Interaction Design.

The Indian Institute of Technology has specified that the qualifying course completed by the candidates must satisfy the 10+2+4 pattern or more for eligibility. The Master of Design (M.Des.) is a highly specialized course, so the Institute urges students to think carefully before applying. Students who have not qualified for the Master of Design programme this year can write the CEED next year since there is no restriction to number of attempts made by a student nor is there an age limit.

If you are shortlisted based on the CEED, then you will be soon called for a department written test and interview. The selection process will ultimately depend on the overall scores you receive. The standard norm for selection is that 25% of weightage is given for the CEED exam results and the rest is divided between the written test and the interview.

IIT Mumbai also offers a limited number of assistantships every year for students who have passed the CEED exams. The assistantship however is given only to deserving meritorious students, taking into consideration your past academic records and your performance in the CEED.
