For all those who think IT has taken a backseat and lost the race in the glamour of new and promising fields, here is a refreshing news. The IT companies are all set to add more manpower in the next three months and also throughout the rest of the fiscal year. Take Infosys ( with planned expansion of 12,000 in this quarter and 45, 000 by April 2012) or TCS (17,000-20,000 in Q2 and 60,000 in the entire fiscal), various technical firms are set to hire in large number, thereby opening doors for career in IT.

According to experts most of the hiring will be in India while the business demand is coming from different geographies. Half of these will be trainees and freshers and the rest will come from a talent pool of experienced professionals. IT giants like HCL technologies and IBM refused to recruit more professionals, but have assured that the industry will hire in the near future.

Opportunities in IT Sector

IT sector has a prospective growth of 15% to 18% and thus require 2.25 lakh to 2.75 lakh people. This will also create 1.5 to 1.75 lakh jobs in engineering and BPO sectors. Therefore career in IT is definitely one can look forward to, as the sector is most likely to hike the headcount. PhD in IT are also widely demanded in research areas such as next generation systems and cloud computing.

  • PhDs in IT are in high demand
  • Engineering, Science and Management degrees are preferred
