Infosys to hire 20k from Indian campuses

One of the biggest giants in the software sector, Infosys has taken a step ahead to employ 20,000 people from Indian campuses during the fiscal year 2012-13. The company is trailing to meet its goal of hiring 47,000 individuals in 2012. Infosys has already hired 23,000 people from the campuses in India during 2011-12.
Company Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director S D Shibhulal said that IT companies were not getting adequate people from the campuses as more than 75 per cent of the fresh graduates were not employable. He said that concerted action was required to make the youth industry ready and there was need for a review of the current curriculum and qualitative improvement in the faculty. According to him, the curriculum should be realigned with the industry's needs. It is highly theoretical now.
What's more interesting is that Infosys is trying to reach out to the engineering college students to make them employable through its ‘Campus Connect' programme. This unique program was crucially structured to create a sustainable association with engineering education institutions in India and abroad to acquire mutual benefit and produce industry ready recruits. Engineering colleges are not able to attract the desired talents and are missing out on the colleges due to the lack of professional atmosphere to boost their careers. Besides high salary, the engineering folks need research facilities to broaden their skills. And this the sole reason for Infosys to emphasize more on engineering students. The company has brought 300 colleges under the very programme.
Not only this, but this software pioneer is on the look-out of expanding its footprints in India with a focus on tier-II cities. The company plans to land in various parts of the country and expand its capacity with a focus on tier-II cities. Tier-II cities are basically cities that are relatively smaller than the metropolitans and are under 1 million in population.
Tier-I cities are no long under the company's expansion plans as the cities under tier-I have already reached their saturation points and face infrastructural challenges. Infosys will increase its strength in the Trivandrum development centre from 5,000 to 10,000 in the next two to three years.
Also, it would set up a development centre at Indore, MP soon after they acquire a land. Infact, Infosys recently sealed a deal with Madhya Pradesh government for setting up a development centre in Indore. It is awaiting response from West Bengal government for setting up a centre in Kolkata.
The other cities under the company's expansion plans include Jaipur, Pune, Mysore, Mangalore and Bhubaneswar. (Read More)
