IT Education and its Products
AS PER initiative taken by Global ICT Standardisation Forum for India (GISFI) to standardise the information technology education and its product on the international map, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad will organise three day first GISFI Standardisation Series Meeting in Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi from June 21, 2010.
IIIT- A director and programme chairperson, Dr M D Tiwari on Thursday outlined the vision of first meeting. He said that GISFI, being an ICT standards forum in India, develops standards to meet the Indian requirements, as well as contributes towards the evolution of global standards.
India plays an increasingly important role in the processes of globalisation in the field of the communications technology industry and research and development. GISFI is an effort to create a new coherence and strengthen the role of India in the world standardisation process by mapping the achievements in ICT in India to the global standardisation trends. Further, GISFI is focused on strengthening the ties among leading and emerging scholars and institutions in India and the world; to develop and cultivate a research and development agenda for the field.
GISFI addresses the research and product development of ICT in India and provides a bridge towards the globalisation of the Indian achievements; the issues of technology, governance and development; and a platform for raising an awareness of the importance and the internationalisation of the higher education in the field are supported by the joint partnership with the Government of India. The working groups organised in GISFI will draw knowledge from academia, business, civil society, and Government/policy-making circles. A strong global platform is the key to a successful standardisation process that can benefit all user groups.
Dr Tiwari added that a decade had elapsed since the beginning of IT education and its product in the country, however, the quality in education and IT products was still a distant dream. To ensure quality in both IT field, the IIIT-A had made an attempt on the initiative of Prof Ramjee Prasad, chairman, GISFI to organise the first GISFI meeting in New Delhi.
Mr PJ Thomas, secretary, Department of Telecommunication, Government of India will inaugurate the session on June 21 at 10 am. Several topics including Future Radio Access Technology, Internet of Things, Convergence, Special Interest Groups, Spectrum , Green Energy etc to be discussed by eminent personalities belonging to education, industry and governmental sectors.
He further elaborated that unifying standardisation efforts in India, creating standards addressing the specificity of the Indian market, creating an information centre on Indian activities in ICT and promoting Indian initiatives to develop into global standard were the main objectives during the meeting.
