IT Networking- Entry To A Promising Career In The ICT World
Computer engineering has become the buzzword among Class XII science students in India owing to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) revolution that is sweeping through the country. Parents are keen on investing in a ‘computer engineering’ seat for their child at a reputed technical institute. So it is not surprising that as per AICTE data, in 2004-05, 31% of the engineering graduates in India were computer engineers. While the IT sector is propelling India’s economy, what students must keep in mind is that the dynamics of this industry are changing rapidly. Several new domains have emerged offering exciting career opportunities. IT networking is one of the hottest growth areas.
In today’s global world, ‘the Network’ has become a platform to integrate all forms of technology and communication systems. A networking professional can be defined as a person engaged in architecting, designing, installing, configuring and troubleshooting networks and network devices. Roles in this area which have conventionally been of architects, engineers, and administrators are evolving into highly specialized roles in security, wireless, voice, and remote office.
While there has been a steady increase in the number of IT professionals in India, there is an increasing shortfall of skilled networking professionals. As the business relevance of ICT grows across all sectors, the demand for networking professionals will continue to rise.
