To join Infosys, get 65 percent marks
Infosys will hire aggressively in 2010 as the business environment rebounds and as more deals flood the marketplace. But the possible war for talent in the months ahead does not mean Infosys will hire anybody who comes along. It is upping the stakes for entry, reports Deccan Chronicle.
"We have raised the bar for entry by asking for a 65 percent average over four years of engineering. The competition requires just 60 percent," HR Chief T. V. Mohandas Pai said. "We have also increased the cut off marks in the tests we administer, because we find a strong correlation between scholastic performance and performance levels at work," he noted.
Infosys is making 15,000 campus offers with graduates expected to join the company between July and December 2010. While the firm's gross employee additions in the third quarter was 8,719 employees, net additions stood at 4,429 of which 1,420 were lateral hires. It plans to add 6,000 employees in the fourth quarter of which 2,000 will be lateral hires. The company also estimates that it will end fiscal year 2010 with an addition of 24,000 plus employees as against the 28, 231 it hired last fiscal.
Although attrition went up from 10.9 percent in the second quarter to 11.6 percent in December, voluntary attrition accounted for 8.3 percent and the rest were asked to leave. While the industry is reportedly paying anywhere between 15 and 50 percent hikes to laterals, Infosys says it will only consider a hike in the range between 10-15 percent.
"There is no shortage of laterals in the market as there is a current pool of two million laterals to choose from. The challenge for us is to get the right person in the right technology job. For instance, if we require a specialist in Oil and Gas who has to work out of Bhubaneshwar, how do we find him?" Pai asks.
