Linux is an operating system; it is a Unix-like operating system. This software enables applications and the computer operator to access the devices on the computer to perform desired functions. It is better known as the most stable and reliable platform that provides database and trading services for companies like Amazon, the well-known online bookshop, US Post Office, the German army and many others.

The operating system transmits instructions from an application to the computer's processors. The main task of the processor is to instruct the tasks, then send back the results to the application via operating system. Linux is an open operating system and it has been developed collaboratively, which means that no company is solely responsible for its development or ongoing support.

Over the years, Linux has been gaining popularity on standard desktop computers and laptops. With the introduction of android, it has made its place in embedded devices and recently in handheld devices.

Linux is not difficult to learn. Basically, it depends from individual to individual and how capable they are in handling the nuances. It is an ideal operating system for power-users and programmers. It is one of the most efficient and fast operating system.
