After the US and the UK, Indian tech companies like Wipro, Cognizant, TCS and Mindtree are now recruiting interns and junior-level talent from Germany campuses. These companies have signed for the ‘Vibe' programme flagged off by Prof Karl Kurbel from the Virtual Global University at the University of Frankfurt Oder and Peter Schumacher, CEO of Value Leadership Group - an offshore advisory firm. The move will help the companies to create a more diverse talent pool and strengthen their base in Europe.

The ‘Vibe' programme will allow the German students to work as interns for three months in India and then at an offshore site of the company in Germany itself. This will help develop cross-cultural understanding and experience global delivery model first-hand, which is an important skill for computer science graduates today. The programme plans to provide paid internship opportunities to 50 German students every year.

Germany employs about six lakh software engineers and more than half of the German firms are facing shortage of talent in Information Technology. Indian companies participating in the ‘Vibe' programme will use it as an opportunity to understand the local industries and command more outsourcing business from the region. Read more

According to a study by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Indian companies have also stepped up hiring in the US to help counter the effects of economic slump. 36 major Indian companies across a wide range of sectors were surveyed for the report. It was estimated that Indian companies have increased more than 70 per cent staff since 2005, saved over 2,000 jobs through mergers and acquisitions and are expected to create 3,400 new jobs this year. The report also states that local hiring by Indian IT firms has quadrupled in America over the past year. See details

In India too, hiring by IT sector has reached its pre-recession levels of 2008 and is said to be growing by at least 10% year-on-year. According to Naukri.com, IT hiring in April 2012 has been highest since July 2012. However, recruitments in BPO and ITeS sectors have fallen flat. More about IT recruitments in India
