AIBE qualifier

Saransh Vijayvargiya completed his BTech only to find a suitable career in the legal profession, which he thinks is one of the most lucrative industries in today’s job market. Saransh has done LLB in Intellectual Property Rights from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun.

The objective of The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is to examine an advocate’s capability to practice the profession of law in India. It gauges the legal understanding of prospective lawyers.

Shiksha.com spoke with Saransh from Rajasthan to know about his AIBE preparation strategy and tips for future aspirants. Saransh says you do not need to be an expert to clear the exam. He says only a general understanding of the topic and conceptual clarity can help you pass the exam. Read the complete interview below:

Q: What is your score in AIBE exam?

A: AIBE does not disclose marks, but I calculated my marks with the help of answer key. It was 83.

Q: What do you currently do?

A: I am a patent attorney at Zest IP. Also, I am an Independent Practitioner at Rajasthan and Delhi High Court.

Q: Did you expect to qualify the AIBE exam?

A: To be frank, I was a bit nervous a day before the exam. But the moment the exam was finished, I was quite sure that I was going to clear it.

Q: Could you tell us about your preparation strategy that helped you crack the AIBE exam?

A: Since AIBE is an open-book exam, so it is not that tough. In order to clear the exam, what is required is a general understanding of the topic and conceptual clarity. If you know the concept, you can easily identify the law which is going to be applicable on that question.

Q: Did you take any coaching for the exam?

A: The exam does not require one to be an adept. So, coaching is not really required. You can pass the exam without the help of coaching.

Q: What study plan did you follow for the exam?

A: My first and the last plan is to get through core subjects such as Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), Code of Civil Procedure (CPC), Evidence, Constitution and Indian Penal Code (IPC) because 50% of the questions are from these subjects only. Anyone taking this exam must go through the Bare Acts index of these subjects.

Q: Which books did you read to prepare for the exam?

A: I had seen many people carrying books to the exam hall, but if you are quite thorough with Bare Acts then there is no need to carry any study material. I referred to only one book during my preparation:

  • Bare Acts by Universal Publication

Q: How did you deal with your strengths and weaknesses while preparing for the exam?

A: Whenever I prepare for an exam, I get exhausted after a certain point of time. To overcome it, I take breaks and try to do something different like cooking, writing book reviews. These are the things which kept me on the track and this is how I turn my weaknesses into strengths.

Q: Which other law entrance exams have you taken in the past?

A: I had taken Patent Agent Examination conducted by the Government of India, which I cleared in the first attempt. I had also appeared in various judicial services exams, but unfortunately could not sail through them.

Q: Was law always your first preference?

A: No, law was not my first preference. I started pursuing BTech, but in the middle of my course, I developed interest in law. Thereafter, it became my area of interest. I think there are better career avenues in this field.

Q: Any tips for students who are planning to take the exam?

A: If anyone wants to clear the exam in the first attempt, he/she must go through the index of all Bare Acts. Since the candidate needs to score a minimum of 40% marks to clear the exam, so start attempting the questions you are confident of.

Q: What are your future plans?

A: Currently, I am preparing for Rajasthan Judicial Services exam and I wish to crack it in the first attempt.
