So, to develop a better understanding of how AILET 2016 exam really was, we spoke to our in-house law stream expert, Vivek Subramanian, who is the co-founder and Chief Instructor at ExamVictor.
He shared that, this year, the exam pattern of AILET was little different from past years. He was quoted as saying, “The perception that I am getting is that AILET 2016 seems to be slightly different when compared to AILET papers from the last 3 years. The examiners were earlier following a pattern of asking tougher Maths and Logical Puzzles each year. This time, they seem to have focused on making the Legal Aptitude section quite tricky”.
Talking about the time duration of the exam viz-a-viz the number of questions asked, he said, “Many students felt that the time pressure was much more this year. 150 questions in 90 minutes was always a challenge, but this year time management as a skill would probably become a differentiator between an average performance and a great one”.
AILET 2016 Exam Analysis of Legal Aptitude Section
Most of the questions asked in this section were tricky. Along with that, the questions asked were extremely lengthy and required a lot of time to read through. With time already being the main problem area in AILET 2016 exam, longer questions in the Legal Aptitude section made it one of the most difficult sections in the exam.
Confirming the same, Vivek stated, “AILET has definitely boosted the level of questions in this section. Earlier, we used to see very straightforward applications of simple principles in the questions. This time around, many questions were genuinely interesting and needed careful reading and analysis to solve”.
AILET 2016 Exam Analysis of General Knowledge and Current Affairs Section
In this section, the difficulty level was maintained. A well-prepared student would not have had an issue. Several topics that are usually paid attention to in this section, such as, Literary Awards and Sports events were covered, which made it easier for students to solve questions in this part of the exam. This was also a section where a student could score some easy marks without spending too much time.
AILET 2016 Exam Analysis of English Section
“Most students felt that English was at the same level or slightly easier than expected. AILET has always maintained a decent level as far as English is concerned – not too hard and not too easy. This year's English section was also along expected lines”, shared Vivek.
AILET 2016 Exam Analysis of Logical Reasoning and Mathematics Section
This was an area where the questions asked were not as tough as anticipated. In the past, we have seen examples of AILET actually using old and very tough CAT and LSAT questions, but this was not the case this year. Vivek shared, “Most of the students, at Exam Victor, found this section to be easy, especially since we had been grilling them with tough puzzles and exercises in our online classes”.

AILET 2016: Expected Cut-off for Selection
Talking about AILET cut-off marks, Vivek revealed, “As far as cut-offs go, getting more than 100 would still be a great score, and I don't see that changing. As you would know, last year's topper scored 118”.
As mentioned before, the true enemy that students faced in this exam was the clock - almost all students felt that if they had a little more time, they could have scored a few more marks. While this will always be the case, the more a student practices, the better their speed is. We expect the scoring pattern, cutoffs and rank distributions to be similar to what we had last year.
