AILET Topper shares why Law is a popular course option

I had decided way back in 10th grade that I wanted to pursue law as a career. I loved debating then, and arguments fascinated me. Law seemed the most brilliant mix of technicalities and principled argumentation back then, and I’ve been keen to pursue the stream ever since.

How I secured admissions Law Admissions

I gave AILET (for NLU Delhi) and CLAT (for all other NLUs except NLU Delhi). These are simple MCQ based examinations and it is a one-stage process: all you need to do is clear the entrance and you will get admission to the college that you are allotted on the basis of your rank and preferences.

Popular Law Secialisations

I don’t think there’s any one most popular branch. Constitutional law, Criminal law, and Corporate law seem to be the most prevalent choices among the many available ones. Intellectual property rights and human rights law also have many takers nowadays.

Law Career Options

The most common career options for law graduates are practice (litigation and arbitration), corporate law, or academia. But many choose to work in the field of policy research and think tanks, some opt for legal journalism, while many even opt for civil services. The range of career possibilities within the field of law practice itself is so wide- ranging from tax and investment law, medicine and pharmaceutical patent laws, media and cyber laws, and what not.

Advice for Aspirants

Make a conscious decision of pursuing law. Your life will revolve only around various types of laws for at least the five years you’re in a law school. Most other career pursuits become secondary, but you'll have enough time to have fun and explore yourself!
