CLAT 2016 Exam Analysis by Experts
CLAT was held on May 8, 2016. Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala was the exam conducting authority of CLAT 2016.
CLAT exam paper comprised of questions from subjects such as English, Mathematics, Legal Aptitude, GK and Current Affairs as well as Logical Reasoning.
Majority of the students shared that CLAT 2016 was easy! Over the last 3 years, CLAT was steadily rising in toughness, so this came as a pleasant surprise to almost all students.
We spoke to out in-house expert Vivek Subramanian, the co-founder and Chief Instructor at ExamVictor. He explained about the difficulty level and exam pattern of CLAT 2016 in detail. The findings are listed below:
CLAT 2016: Legal Aptitude Section
The only new thing that was tried in CLAT this time was to introduce even longer questions in this section. Usually, about 30-40 Principle-Fact-Decision questions are asked, and each time the Principles and Facts are not longer than a couple of sentences. This time, they were almost mini-Reading Comprehension passages, and required patience to sit and solve through. The final application was not hard and would be straightforward for a well-prepared student.
CLAT 2016: General Knowledge and Current Affairs
There was a good amount of Current Affairs asked in this section, and most students were very glad that they had gone through all important events both within India and internationally. There were a few obscure facts tested, but that is normal and happens every year.
CLAT 2016: English
The general perception was that this section was slightly tougher than previous years’ papers. The difference would only be marginal, and for a well-prepared candidate it would not have posed a problem. There were no new question patterns asked and no major surprises.
CLAT 2016: Logical Reasoning and Mathematics
This time CLAT exam included tougher Math questions. As we correctly anticipated, this time there were questions from Probability, Permutations & Combinations and basic Statistics.
Logical Reasoning was the same level as previous years. Our students were delighted that a couple of puzzles that we had discussed in class were repeated exactly, with just the names changed!
CLAT 2016: Overall Exam Analysis
Overall CLAT 2016 was an easy paper. Most students were able to go through the entire paper and attempt as many questions as they wanted. Time pressure was not an issue. The only problem could be overconfidence and subsequently, negative marking. Even so, we anticipate that the cutoffs would shift upwards this year by about 10-15%.
