Mystory@Dr Jaswant Singh Bhatti: How I made my career – Challenges and successes

I did my schooling from Bazar Primary School, Hansi. I left studies in between only to be thrashed by parents into joining back. After completing graduation from NM College, Hansi, I sat at home for a year and then joined an LLB course.

I got a job at Central Bank of India as Deputy CO Law, after bagging second rank in all India written and viva test. Soon I was promoted to CO Law, then got promoted to the post of Chief Manager and from there it was upward swing.

I could not make a career in law as no senior lawyer could not coach me well. I tried for the job of Judicial Magistrate and passed written many times, but could not make it without reference. I passed IAS-preliminary exam too but could not cleat the Main exam as I had no books, no tips and no effective preparation.

Moreover, I had to takeover farming from my parents as my brothers were trying for MBBS and Defence services. I was happy farming and converted it from traditional mode to a modern one.

I resumed education after 12 years and did MBA-PGD in Environment and Ecology, CAIIB and Doctorate.

My college years and mistakes

If given a chance again, I would study only up to Graduation as that’s the maximum one can learn. Higher studies are only extension of few subjects without any practical relevancy.

Yes, I had chosen a right career for myself but I didn’t take it seriously. I took education casually, my only objective was passing the exam not to excel in studies.

Proper guidance, coaching, counselling, study material, discipline and finance were inappropriate despite the fact that motivation was at full all the time. I did not demand these things as was not aware of the importance of these factors. On the other hand no one made me aware of these things. I just went along trying again and again without any guidance from any quarter. They all took me as only as a farm worker, nothing more.
