Online LLM in IT & telecom law

The Law School of University of Southampton has introduced an online distance learning LLM programme in Information Technology and Telecommunications Law. It is meant for law aspirants who find it difficult to afford a full-time course or are fettered by time constraints.  The Directors for the LLM are Professor Ian Lloyd and Professor Steve Saxby.

Says Professor Saxby: “We are offering six modules on the LLM course wherein three modules will be available in each semester. To obtain a Master’s degree, one needs to complete four modules and also submit a dissertation.” The students will get to select four modules from a range of topics including legal aspects of information security, e-commerce law, intellectual property law, telecommunications law, access to official information and liability in the information society.

 

The course comprises of two semesters per year, which run from October to January and February to May.  January and June will be devoted to preparation of the final assessment. The dissertation will be completed in the second year between June 1 and September 30. In order to enroll for this course at the School of Law, the candidate needs to have an upper second class honours degree either in law or a degree with a significant legal component. Furthermore, if the student’s first language is not English then English language proficiency will be looked into for evidence. The University of Southampton would be willing to consider applications from candidates with non-standard qualifications, especially when they may be able to demonstrate relevant work experience.
