By: Ambika Sur
When one has less time in hands then only working hard won’t give the desired score, so, along with hard work one has to work smartly as well to achieve the set goals.
The students should not consider a month as a short period for preparation, the only thing required during this time is a proper strategy. In this article, we will discuss the last month preparation tips to score high in CLAT.
Know the syllabus and exam pattern –The syllabus of CLAT is available on the official website. The candidates must know the syllabus to crack the entrance exam. in CLAT, the candidates have to attempt 102 questions in total (100 objective type questions and 2 descriptive type questions). The descriptive answers would only be checked when a candidate scores 40% (General Category) in the objective section (35% for SC, ST and PWD). Hence, knowledge of the syllabus and exam pattern is important. One could start preparing easy topics first, as this would help in covering more topics in a short time and enhancing the confidence level.
Practise previous year questions papers – Practising previous year question papers would help in understanding the topics which have high weightage. For example, Law of Torts and IPC and Contracts are important topics. Even though there are some changes in the pattern of CLAT2020, however, it is suggested to go through the previous year question papers.
Practise mock tests –Manage time while practising mock tests. Always try to improve performance with every mock test. Analyse and work on the mistakes. Also, ensure that these mistakes are not repeated.
Reference books
For Jurisprudence, VD Mahajan and Mani Tripathi are recommended books. Also, Ashok K Jain’s Judicial Service Exam Book could be referred to as the chapters in this book are sorted according to the sections.
For Constitutional Law Section, any one book from these authors could be referred – JN Pandey, VN Shukla and Brij Kishore.
Besides these books, practise from Singhal’s Solved CLAT paper for Miscellaneous. Read the newspaper to keep abreast with the recent updates.
Self-study - This is the key when one has only a month in hand for preparation. Avoid wasting time by taking part in group discussions and other forums. The focus should be on covering the syllabus and revising thoroughly. Make short notes and revise these regularly.
Keep calm – The mind functions well only when one is relaxed. Maintain a healthy routine and keep a track of your progress. To stay calm, strictly follow the timetable and focus on managing time.
Revision – Thorough revision should be done by students to secure high marks in the entrance exam. The suggestion is to make it a cycle: study – practise - revise and repeat. Go through the notes prepared while preparing a topic a week or few days before the exam.
