IIMC Admissions Through CUET-PG

IIMC Admissions Through CUET-PG - The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) accepts CUET-PG scores for admissions to their postgraduate and postgraduate diploma courses. The institute started this practice in 2022. Before that, IIMC used to conduct the IIMC Entrance Exam for admissions to their programmes. They still conduct the IIMC Entrance Exam but only for their regional language PG Diploma in Journalism courses (Odia, Malayalam, Marathi and Urdu).

Common University Entrance Test (Postgraduate) or CUET-PG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions to postgraduate programmes offered at Central and other participating universities. This national-level entrance exam converges the entrance process and is also aimed at providing equal opportunities to students nationwide. It has proven to be most beneficial for students from rural and remote locations of the country.

CUET PG and IIMC Entrance - Tentative Timeline

CUET-PG is conducted annually. NTA usually opens applications for CUET-PG sometime in December. The last date to fill out the application form falls in the month of February. Soon after they provide applicants with a short Application Correction Window, during which they can make changes to the application forms they have already filled. The CUET-PG admit card is released prior to the entrance test which is conducted in the summer. For reference, in 2023, CUET-PG was conducted in June while in 2024, it was conducted in March. The results were out in April. Depending on the programme, students who clear the exam are then called for interviews and/ or counselling.

IIMC has divided their programmes into three categories - Category 1, 2 and 3. They’re explained below in the context of entrance and admissions.

Category 1 - Courses under this category are MA in Media Business Studies and MA in Strategic Communication (both have an intake of 40 seats each). The merit list for admission to these courses is prepared on the basis of CUET-PG scores (85% weightage) and an interview (15% weightage).

Category 2 - This category includes all the PG Diploma courses except the PG Diploma in Journalism (Regional Languages) course. Admissions are done on the basis of qualification in CUET-PG and a subsequent counselling process.

Category 3 - Courses in this category include PG Diplomas in Urdu, Marathi, Malayalam and Odia Journalism. Admissions to these are done on the basis of the IIMC Entrance Exam conducted separately by the institute.

  • IIMC e-counselling is held in rounds and spot rounds. Students must register for the counselling process on IIMC’s website - https://iimc.admissions.nic.in.
  • After registering, they will be required to fill a counselling application form and pay a fee (INR1500 for general category applicants and INR1000 for reserved category candidates). In this form, they will have to provide personal details, CUET-PG qualification details, contact details, etc.

  • The next step is a ‘Willingness Submission’. Students will be given two options - Freeze or Float. Students can choose Freeze if they’re satisfied with their seat allotment or Float if they want an upgrade in the subsequent rounds of counselling.
  • After this, students will have to upload some documents like age proof, CUET-PG admit card, scorecard, category certificates, etc.
