IIMC Entrance Exam 2017: Paper Analysis & Student Reaction
IIMC Entrance Exam 2017 for all courses (except for courses offered in regional languages) was conducted on May 28 at 19 test centres across India. Entrance exam for each course was conducted on the same day within a gap of one hour. Only the entrance exams for journalism courses offered in regional languages (Odia, Urdu, Marathi, and Malayalam) were held on May 27, 2017 at different test locations.

Shiksha is present at an IIMC entrance exam centre in RK Puram where more than 900 students appeared for the test for admission in PG Diploma in Journalism course. Apart from that, 706 students took the entrance exam conducted for admission in Radio & TV Journalism course and another 801 gave the test for Advertising and Public Relations course admissions.

IIMC Entrance Exam Student Reaction for Journalism Course
A majority of students that Shiksha spoke to shared that the exam was easy and they could complete their paper in time. Krishnaveer Singh from Amity University, Rajasthan, said, “My exam went pretty well. I knew every question in the exam.”
Also, Shreeja, a student of IP College, Delhi University, shared, “My exam went fine based on my preparation level. The difficulty level of the exam was not very high because the topics were quite predictable. All current affair questions were asked in the exam related to topics such as Demonetisation, Donald Trump’s foreign policy, Digital India, Make in India initiative, etc. I was familiar with the current affairs happening these days so it was easy for me to write the paper. Questions from English were also good.”
Another student from JNU, Jafra Raza, said, “Questions in the exam were easy. But for a person who was not up-to-date with the latest happenings in the world the exam was difficult.” As per Niyamika from Shyam Lal College, her exam went fine. But for her, questions asked from English were little difficult as she did not know the meanings of some words. She, however, was able to complete her paper on time.
Swati Joshi who had applied for PG Diploma in Hindi Journalism course revealed, “My exam went good although I did not study well for it. The paper basically tested the general awareness of candidates.” Talking about the difficulty level of the exam she said, “There was a passage which we had to convert from English to Hindi. I found some difficulty in doing that question because there were some words in English that I could not comprehend.”
IIMC Entrance Exam Student Reaction for Radio & TV Journalism Course
A majority of students who had appeared for Radio & TV Journalism course shared that they found the paper to be easy. Regarding the exam pattern most students said that the test was similar as compared to last year’s paper. According to Ashwas who is pursuing his graduation from Motilal Nehru College, “My exam went fine. The difficulty level of the paper was not high. Questions asked in the exam were mostly news-oriented. There were no separate questions on English language.”
Holding similar views, Manaf from Maharaja Agrasen College said, “Exam was not difficult. Questions asked were mostly from current affairs. If a student read newspapers daily, he/ she could write the exam easily.” According to Gayatri from Kumaun University, Uttarakhand, her exam did not go well. Elaborating about the exam, she said, “Last two questions in the exam were not clear to me. However, the difficulty level of the exam was not high but medium. The pattern of the exam was also similar to that of last year’s.”
Ismail Alam Khan from KR Mangalam University revealed, “My exam went good as the questions asked were not difficult. Questions in the paper were mostly related to Politics and the eminent personalities of India.” About IIMC Entrance Exam pattern, Ismail had differing opinion than others. He felt that the paper was entirely different as compared to last year. He said, “I was not expecting such questions but somehow I managed to write my exam. Paper was different in terms of questions that were asked related to Politics, Personalities, and Policies. Last year questions were different.” Ismail, however, was able to complete his paper in time.
IIMC Entrance Exam Student Reaction for Advertising & PR Course
Common consensus regarding IIMC Entrance Exam for Advertising & PR Course was that the paper was easy but lengthy. Kritika Arora, a student of Amity University shared, “Exam was good but a bit lengthy. The paper just tested our innovation for different answers.” Regarding the exam pattern, she said, “This year’s paper was almost the same like previous years’ papers. What was different was just that how aware we were about the latest happenings in the world.”
As per Rahul Ranjan, a student of LS College, Muzzafarpur, “Paper was not difficult. Anyone who has done his/ her graduation in Mass Communication would have been able to answer all questions well. Questions in the exam were directly related to the ad campaigns that are going on these days. Exam pattern was also almost the same as compared to last year’s paper.”
Gauri Khanna who is pursuing a course in English Literature from Shyam Lal College, said that her exam went good. Elaborating further, she said, “The paper basically tested a candidate’s creative side. It was about how we could imagine things. For example, there was a question on a person’s space journey to the moon.” Gauri also revealed that the paper was little lengthy but she managed to complete her paper before time.
Agrima from Lady Irwin College, said, “It was a creative paper that tested candidates’ imaginative skills. However, the paper was very lengthy so we did not have time to think and write. We had to write what came to our mind immediately.” Talking about the difficulty level of the exam, Agrima said, “According to me, an exam on Advertisement and PR can never be difficult as the questions always judge a student’s instincts and creativity and how he/she can deal with an issue.”

IIMC Entrance Exam for Journalism Course: Exam Analysis
The test pattern for IIMC Entrance Exam 2017 for admission in Journalism (Hindi/ English) course was similar to last year’s paper. This year also candidates had to attempt all questions asked in the exam. But there were options given within the questions.
IIMC Entrance Exam 2017 consisted of five questions that candidates had to complete in two hours duration. Maximum marks that candidates could score were 85.
For each question candidates had to adhere to a word limit. The word limits for different questions ranged from 150 – 200 words. However, in some questions related to English language candidates had to explain words in 10 words.
Most of the questions asked in the exam were related to current affairs, especially political happenings in India.
IIMC Entrance Exam for Radio & TV Journalism Course: Exam Analysis
Similar to Print Journalism paper, IIMC Entrance Exam 2017 for Radio & TV Journalism course admissions was also easy. Most of the questions asked in the exam were news-oriented. A candidate who remained up-to-date with all the latest happenings in the world could write the paper with ease.
The question paper for Radio & TV Journalism course comprised five questions of 85 marks. There were two long questions and three short questions in the exam. Candidates had to write the answer for long questions in 500 words. The word limit for short questions ranged from 40 – 250 words.
IIMC Entrance Exam for Advertising & PR Course: Exam Analysis
IIMC Entrance Exam for admission in PG Diploma in Advertising & PR course consisted of five questions. Each question had choices and maximum marks that candidates could score in the exam were 85.
Questions asked in the exam aimed at testing the creativity and innovation of candidates. Unlike last year, word limits given in the exam were different for separate questions. However, the word limit for most questions ranged from 150 - 500 words.
On the basis of a candidate’s score in IIMC Entrance Exam 2017, he/ she will be shortlisted for the next round of admissions – Group Discussion (GD)/ Personal Interview (PI). Candidates clearing the GD/PI round will then be offered admission at different IIMC campuses.
