In India, the education sector has take a massive hit with entrance exams being postponed and rescheduled due to the nationwide lockdown which has been imposed for the safety of the citizens. Fast forward to July, many impositions have been relaxed and gradually matters are being handled in online mode. In terms of Journalism and Mass Communication, many institutes and colleges have resorted to online entrance exams or offering admission on the basis of merit. While some institutes are offering admission on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying examination, some institutes have held entrance exams online, which are being followed by online Personal Interviews (PI).

What about the completion of semesters?

As stated by the UGC, colleges and institutes are closed and varsities have introduced online classes. The possibility of the entrance exam dates being extended further is a real possibility, given the number of rising cases in India. With Delhi/NCR regions reporting cases on a daily basis, classes will not take place until further notice. Professors of colleges and institutes have been advised to provide students with study material and assignments.

As mentioned above, the impact of Coronavirus has introduced the medium of conducting entrance exams through online mode, i.e. entrance exams from home, where the student has the liberty to give the entrance exam from their home on their laptops. However, major varsities have postponed the entrance exams till further notice. Jamia Millia Islamia Entrance Exam

One of the renowned varsities in the nation, Jamia Millia Islamia has introduced online classes for their students and had cancelled the final year examinations. The schedule for the JMI Entrance Exam is as such that the application window has been extended over the course of months. The application forms were released online on February 20, 2020, and the last date to apply for UG & PG courses is July 31, 2020, while the last date to apply for MPhil and PhD programmes is August 20, 2020. IIMC Entrance Exam

As per the latest notice released by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), the IIMC has cancelled the IIMC Entrance Exam and admission will be done on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying examination, which will be followed by a Personal Interview (PI). In order to maintain social distancing and ensuring the safety of students and parents, the renowned institute has decided to cancel the entrance exam for the 2020-21 academic year. Earlier, the varsity decided to offer students admission to Regional Language Journalism courses on the basis of merit and the other main courses through an entrance exam in the month of September. However, due to the raging cases growing in India, the institute has decided to call off the entrance exam.

FTII JET

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has successfully conducted the FTII JET 2020 on February 14 and 15, 2020. The Joint Entrance Test is conducted in order to offer students admission in postgraduate diploma courses offered at the institute. The FTII were supposed to release the results in the third week of May, 2020, however, the renowned institute will now release the results on September 15, 2020.

ACJ Entrance Exam

The Asian College of Journalism has successfully conducted the ACJ Entrance Exam and the results of the ACJ Entrance Exam has also been declared. The ACJ Entrance Exam was conducted in online mode on May 17, 2020. The results were not declared publically and students who had cleared the entrance exam, were intimidated via email or phone call. There has been no information yet released and it is believed that the batch for the 2020-21 academic year has been selected.

CAP TEST

The Amrita School of Communication conducts the CAP Test in order to offer students admission in undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD in communication and PG Diploma. The application process for CAP Test commenced from February 20, 2020 onwards and the last date to apply has been extended for all courses. There is no specific date yet released for CAP Test and a new schedule will be released soon. For now, the application window is currently open and students can apply online.

XIC OET

St Xavier's College in Mumbai has currently closed its doors as Maharashtra has reported the most number of COVID-19 cases in India. St. Xavier's College has successfully conducted the XIC OET in online mode and the results for all PG Diploma courses have also been released online.
