Indian colleges and institutes are into experimenting mode with new admission methods and strategies. From recording interviews to demanding video resumes, the institutes are trying different ways and means to make the admission process more transparent and innovative.

For instance, to bring in more transparency in the selection process, Jamia Millia Islamia, an institute well-known for its mass communication programs, will now be recording interviews that will be conducted for entrance to its mass communication centre for the year 2012-13.

Under this new initiative, the university will be recording footages of interviews being conducted for admission to various courses to the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (AJK MCRC).

Towards better transparency and accountability in the selection process, Jamia's initiative will provide a record of interviews also along with answer sheets of students.

Faculty and media coordinator, Simi Malhotra says, "The idea behind recording interviews is to assess performance, which is subjective in nature. As the video can be referred to again at any point of time during selection after the interview is over, it will help make the final selection process totally fair and transparent." (Read more)

Talking about path-breaking admission strategies, ISB (Indian School of Business) Hyderabad and Mohali too is now asking for video resumes. Beginning next academic season, entrants to these institutes will be required to submit video resumes to the admission committee along with GMAT scores, essays and recommendation letters.

Students will be required to upload a 90 second video recording completing the statement ‘Life for me is ...', in either .mpeg, .mpg or .wmv formats. While completing this statement, students will have the freedom to answer it in the fashion they find apt and comfortable on the video.

This initiative is intended to test a student's communication skills and articulation abilities. Interestingly, applicants to ISB's Young Leaders Programme have been submitting video resumes since the commencement of the program.
