LPU is not just a University, it’s home to students: Misbah
To get out of your comfort zone is not easy. You carry many baggage with it. When you step out of your home, you actually start to experience the real world. The world full of competition, where nobody is concerned about you, where you feel alone. This is exactly what I felt when I left my home in Srinagar to pursue my Masters degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar.
It was my passion to become a Journalist and to fulfil it I travelled all the way from Srinagar to LPU. When I entered the campus on the first day of the academic session, I had tears in my eyes, I thought I do not belong here. This is not my place and the people here are not my kind. Wearing the identity card around my neck I walked towards my department, School of Journalism. “I want to go back to my place”, I was saying to myself. Being a fresher, I guess everybody feels that way but with time I figured out everything. I made new friends. They all belonged to different places. I saw the diversity in LPU. I made friends students who had come all the way from UAE, South Africa and other countries to study at LPU.
Home-sickness started to vanish as the days passed by. The best thing about LPU is that, this university not only helps you in academics but also provides moral and emotional support which is much needed for students coming from faraway places.
LPU provided me with a platform where I enhanced my skills and the faculty members boosted my confidence. The faculty in LPU is very impressive. They are always available for you. I never knew I was a good speaker until I participated in various events in my university. In LPU, we practice what we learn. I got the chance to interact with many eminent personalities like Mr. Sayed Ansari who is the anchor of Aaj Tak News Channel and Mr Navjot Singh Sidhu. I worked with a reputed newspaper in Kashmir as a news reporter and published my stories, all this happened because of LPU as they provided practical exposure; from camera handling to interviewing to writing.
LPU campus is not just a university; it is a home to thousands of students. It is a beautiful town in itself. Now it is a second home to me, this place is very close to my heart and I have made beautiful memories here which I am going to cherish forever. I came here with tears in my eyes and will leave it the same way as I will miss my second home.
