Mystory@Siddharth Dutta: How I chose my course and college
With my parents working in the field of advertising, I have been getting some amount of exposure to this field since my early days. Even after pursuing Science in 11th, I realised that my passion was writing articles, with a constant knack for advertising. That’s when I decided I should keep Mass Communication as a career option as well. So after 12th, I appeared for my engineering entrance exams as well as admission tests for Mass Communication. Despite clearing almost all the engineering entrances, I opted for Mass Communication. (Watch R Madhavan’s emotional conversation with his father in 3 Idiots.) For Mass Communication, I had three options as I wanted to stay in Delhi – GGSIPU, Amity and DU. DU was way off my marks, so I was left with GGSIPU and Amity. I cleared the exams at both places, but opted for BA Hons – Journalism and Mass Communication at Amity University, Noida due to its great exposure.
How I cracked college admission
I just prepared for the Personal Interview for Amity’s entrance test. As I was keen for the course and kept myself up to date with all the current affairs, I didn’t have to do much. It was pretty easy and the interviewers were very cordial. I didn’t opt for any coaching classes. I tried for GGSIPU apart from Amity. For cracking admission tests at Amity, one needs to be well versed in English and have basic knowledge about current affairs and media.

My college experience
Being a boring person, I usually spend my time in classrooms, attending classes or going to the studio. Since Amity has its own studios – video studio, photography studio and a radio station – equipped with the latest equipment. So one can actually get exposure to all the required technicalities of Mass Media within the campus here. I take part in literary society activities like debates, extempore, article writing etc. Apart from that, I’ve taken part in Photography as well. There is also a Film club, two dance societies, a theatre society and a music society.
If given a chance, I would love to resume my football, which I had to quit due to academics and a leg injury. Amity School of Communication has its own football team, for which I would like to play again. Also, if given a chance, I would form a society for advertising and be a part of it. College has absolutely changed me as a person. I have become more lively and enthusiastic, do projects and tasks assigned with zeal, have got much more exposure to the world, which has also bettered my tastes and preferences in various things. Apart from that, I have fun in college, while I am being groomed for the professional world which I have to join as soon as I leave college – be it in Masters or a job. Overall, Amity has been a great choice for me and I’m happy I chose this college.
