Modeling has made its place amongst the top 10 highest paid career of 2012. So all those, thinking of making a full-fledged career on ramp, don't wait but work towards it. Considered as one of the most lucrative career options modeling is known for an direct route to stardom or films. These days there are extensive opportunities for the models apart from walking the ramp.

Filled with glamour and glitz, this profession has been a dream for many. It is a profession where both males and females are treated equally and offers success without any bias. It involves a lot of hard work, dedication and perseverance for a successful career. Along with it the candidate needs to be high on stamina and patience. It is a profession where educational qualification is not required and physical attributes gain importance over others.

Eligibility:

While this profession has no specific qualification or age limit, candidates should enter early, but after finishing their basic education till graduation. The first step is to prepare a portfolio with the help of a professional photographer. After this the photographs can be submitted to advertising or modeling agency, who will call you as per assignments.

Though there are no set training criteria, the models are expected to learn while working. Some ex models have started training schools for models which are mainly confined to Delhi and Mumbai. The training programme includes instructions on beauty care, make-up, hair styling, diet and exercise, how to walk and carry yourself elegantly and so on. It also guides the students preparing/handling contracts and other technicalities. Institutes also guide the students in making a strong portfolio.

For being a model there are certain criteria and they are as follows:

  • Healthy complexion and hair
  • Good height, between 5ft 7inches to 6ft for females and 5ft 8inches plus for males
  • Photogenic
  • Good knowledge of acting
  • Camera friendly attitude
  • Self confidence

Job Prospects:

Modelling can be categorized into Television modelling, Print modelling/Still modelling, Ramp modelling/live modelling, Show room modelling, Advertising modelling etc. In this field the career prospects are innumerable and they can also try out their hands on the following:

  • In product advertising
  • Featuring in music videos
  • Doing live fashion shows
  • Showroom displays or garment fairs
  • Opening a school for models
  • Setting up a model coordinating agency
  • Acting in television programmes or films

Remuneration:

Modelling is a lucrative career option and female models tend to earn more than the males. An established model will earn anything between Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 per fashion show, while beginners can earn anything from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. Print ads depend on the number of photographs while the billboards and magazine spreads can fetch around Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per photograph.
