Online Screenwriting: A Programme to Hone Script Writing Skills
Since Indian film industry is going through an ever going evolutionary phase, the film makers are always hunting for new stories & screenwriters. Since the contribution of a well-written script in the success of a film is paramount, online screenwriting is in great demand.
A 40-week online diploma course in screenwriting has been introduced by Whistling Woods International, Mumbai (www.whistlingwoods.net), which would start in August, 2010. The classes would be conducted by Anjum Rajabali, the veteran who has to her credit the successful movies such as The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Rajneeti etc. Also, many experienced and famous industry professionals will be guiding students from time to time.
Talking about the eligibility criteria, the candidate must have finished graduation & should be 21 years at the time of application. The work experience, however, is not mandatory.
The course entails a number of elements such as 20 pre-recorded lectures of duration 2 hours to be delivered fortnightly by head of the department, 10 writing-evaluation sessions, 20 interactive Q&A sessions each with a duration of five hours. These sessions are either conducted on e-learning platform or chat platform through audio-text media. Queries of students can be solved after each lecture through threaded emails for 72 hours.
The course syllabus is structured with the primary aim to help budding screenwriters sharpen their writing skills by coming up with new plots, narratives & carve a niche for themselves.
The course syllabus encompasses elements, which help aspiring writers translate exhaustively available literature into viable screenplays coupled with effective dialogue writing, scenes etc.
This course stands class apart since a student can write a complete script, which he/she can sell for at least Rs. 5 lakhs post course completion. Anjum Rajabali, Head of department, says, "Filmmakers are always on the lookout for skilled writers and well-written scripts. If students grasp this subject properly and translate that learning into writing scripts, there is no reason why they can't make their mark in the film industry."
