Television Writing: Gateway to Entertainment Industry
With every day mushrooming channels and countless daily soaps operas and reality shows across all of them, television has regained its access to everyone's homes & hearts. To capitalize this success of the burgeoning TV industry, a student can choose a television writing course offered by Whistling Woods International (WWI), Mumbai (www.whistlingwoods.net).
The duration of this course is one year, and the students are provided with extensive training by distinguished guest faculty and experienced in-house faculty. The students pursuing this course need to conceptualize and prepare a story plot entailing elements such as characters, teleplay and dialogues gyrating around the central theme. Any candidate with HSC/SSC & 21 years of age is eligible to apply for this course; however, the work experience is preferred.
Not only this, but also the course encompasses other aspects such as significance of satellite channels, evolution of television industry, rating systems etc. Vinod Ranganath, Project Head and Main Tutor, Television writing, WWI, said, "There has been no structured course for Television writing till date despite this being a difficult subject."
The first semester of this course comprises of approximately 300 hours of training session on varied concepts such as analysis, foundation, training, workshops, writing etc. Also, the students will be provided with adequate training across other disciplines such as direction, editing, cinematography and production besides regular workshops for training on writing sitcoms, thrillers etc.
A six-week break between the two semesters would be given to the students in which the students will be required to go for internship with one of the premier leading houses. Revision would be conducted throughout the second semester, and also the analysis of the first semester would be done. Then the students would be required to work extensively on their super specialization in which they'd be required to work on either a comedy or thriller.
