New Delhi, June 16 - Reporting and writing are the principal disciplines of journalism. Accordingly, the core of the ACJ curriculum in the first term is an extensive series of lectures and workshops on gathering and presenting news.

Core courses

Reporting, writing and editing: Through practical work in the classroom and assignments, students learn to file reports quickly without sacrificing accuracy and to write concisely without compromising clarity.

Tools of the modern journalist: Segments on photojournalism, interviewing skills, the art of developing sources, computer-assisted reporting and research, new media resources, the use and abuse of statistics, and graphics, layout, and design are included in this course.

Key issues in journalism: This course comprises two types of lectures:

The first helps students understand different aspects of their future profession. The second deals with substantive issues of current relevance.

Media perspectives:

This course is designed to give young entrants into journalism a sense of the history and characteristics of the news media in India, and of their possible future development.

The media law and society: This course considers the whole range of laws that apply to the various media in India, focusing on their professional and social implications.

In the second term, students begin to specialise. In the third term, students produce work of increasing range and complexity. They continue to take up elective courses. Much of the final term is taken up by the investigative report and the dissertation.
