2 days to CAT 2015: Get tips from 100 percentilers
With just two days to go for CAT 2015, candidates should now slowly minimise taking mock tests and simply revise the formulas.
As we all know, CAT 2015 will unveil a new paper pattern. However, the basics of the exam are same. CAT 2015 will test a candidates’ language, logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude.
When it comes to CAT 2015 exam strategy, aspirants should be carefully about it on the day of exam. It’s a lengthy paper – 60 minutes for each section. So candidates should focus on accuracy and try to maximise attempts.
CAT 2015 sample test available on the website was just a representation on how the paper would feel like. It’s not a symbolic or accurate representation. The actual CAT 2015 will or could be extremely different from the sample test and various other mock tests available in the market currently.
Shiksha got in touch with some former CAT aspirants who scored a perfect 100 percentile. Here’s what they had to say:
Neha Manglik
“For 14 days, I followed the exact same schedule - I had the same breakfast at the same time, went for a walk while listening to the exact same songs, and started my mock at the exact same time as the real CAT. That made sure my body was prepared for CAT on the D-day. Sounds crazy, but it worked!”

"CAT is a language, knowledge and aptitude-based test. Cracking the exam depends from candidate to candidate. You can also crack it with one month preparation or take 8 -10 months as well. Just be truthful about your preparation and prepare sincerely."

“Towards the end, I studied for three hours a day (though not every day) – gave a test or did as many questions as possible in three hours, because the exam is for three hours. I saw no point in studying six-seven hours a day with one or two hour breaks. But I gave just three hours in a day.” Read more...

“Students with some background in Mathematics and English – not necessarily engineering background. I don’t think CAT is such a heavily engineering biased exam as it is made out to be. The Maths component of the exam is not so impossibly tough that people make it out to be, especially this year. The paper has become significantly easier than the last two years.” Read more...

"Don’t get disheartened if you give a mock CAT and you don’t score well. Learn from your mistakes. I feel if you don’t do mistakes you may learn less and if you make mistakes then you know where you are wrong and thereafter work on improving your weak areas. So, I think making mistakes helps more rather than not making mistakes in the preparation." Read more...

"Candidates should just focus on improving speed. So take lots of mock exams and cover all the areas/topics."
Anuraag Reddy
"My suggestion is to be conceptually strong and practice to increase speed and accuracy. One should believe in oneself and try to gain knowledge and results will follow." Read more...

"The new format requires you to be both fast and accurate. Time management is an important part now. Work hard to improve in the areas where you are not good at and practice a lot. That is how you are going to improve yourself."
Aditya Vikram Singh
"Have fun while preparing. Because if you are not enjoying your preparation you are going to get really tired soon especially because you are a bit new to that kind of questions. So make sure you think it of as a game. Just try and beat your high score and try and have fun with it because I think that’s the most important aspect. And other than that just relax and don’t take too much pressure." Read more...
