Placements are extremely important in every MBA grad’s life. After two years of slogging and studying case studies incessantly, finally placement season arrives.
Placement season gearing steam in every B-School and preparing for it requires a lot of patience and skill. As students go on to score the perfect job, here are five crucial tips to help you crack the placements.
1. Clearing Aptitude Test
Several companies have an aptitude test round in the initial stages. Many candidates undermine the importance of this stage and just prepare for interview stage. More than 50% candidates are rejected at this stage. Therefore it becomes extremely crucial to clear this test with flying colours. Keep practicing aptitude questions regularly and prepare well. Do some research on the kind of questions a company generally asks in the aptitude test. Some of the common topics are quant, logical reasoning, and data interpretation and so on. Some firms even have group discussion (GD) rounds. So, remember the general GD rules and make a positive statement.
2. The Interview
The purpose of the interview is to assess the candidate’s suitability to the role. So, stay confident and be calm during the meeting. Don’t show your desperation for the job. Also, let the interview speak and don’t interrupt them unnecessarily. Go through some frequently asked questions such as weakness and strengths questions, profile suitability and so on. Be clear about your long term goals and answer accordingly. Also, ask a few questions about the job profile or the company. This reflects your interest.
Also, if you don’t know the answers to a question, just admit it. Don’t try to make up answers. Be honest and avoid creating bad impression.
3. The Resume
Resume is the first thing that prospective employers see of you. So, it’s important to make it count. Recruiters go through more than 100 resumes in a week. There’s no ideal resume length, but less is always good. Typically, employers take about 30 seconds to review a CV. 4. Research
It’s important to do some research on the both the company and current market trends. You shouldn’t be clueless when the employer asks you about the upcoming trends of the field. These are the two most common but important points associated with interviews. Do not arrive late for your test or interview. It’s better to reach the venue before time. Dressing suitably is also crucial. Wear a formal attire and follow the etiquettes. Be calm and confident. And lastly, speak clearly.
