9 characters you will encounter in an MBA class

Slowly the big day is nearing. All those years of hard work, slogging it at night – your dream has finally come true.  Soon, you’ll be a part of the prized MBA class.

And yet, the journey is only beginning. In these one or two years, you’ll come across countless experience and persons. From Day 1 to the final placement season, your life will be full of assignments, networking and career-building.

And an important part of these years are the classmates – some of whom you may grow to like and some not so much.

 1.       The Chaturs  (Nerds)

Remember Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots?  “Adarniya sabhapati mahodaya...”

Like Chatur, they try to mug everything possible without understanding a word. Ask for notes or help in assignments, and they’ll stare at you as if you asked for the Holy Grail.

2.       The Future Entrepreneurs

There’s strategy in everything they see; a business plan is lurking behind every idea. Throughout two years, they are either scouting for ideas or scrambling for funds for their start-ups.

 

3. The Chetan-Bhagat Novel Characters

Like characters of Chetan Bhagat novels, nobody knows these losers. Yet, by the end of the year they have everything – great placements, great girls, and great reputation.

4.       The Family Business Guys

Every class has at least one of these. These are the guys with the lowest GPA in class and yet have ‘self-employed’ or ‘CEO’ written on their Facebook and LinkedIn profiles after two years of business school.

5.       The Leaders

They display early symptoms of leadership. These guys see a cause and effect in everything. Bad mess food? Stinking loos? Fee hike? This is your (wo)man.

 

 

 

6.       The Networker 

Meet the people pleasers. They are present in every party and know every character in the college – from the academic head to the janitor. Even before annual alumni meets happen, these guys have introduced themselves on Facebook or LinkedIn. And then one fine day, you see them setting their own start-up.

 

 

7.       The Timetable Guys

If the first class starts at 9 am, the timetable guy will arrive by 8:45 am. The world is a clock for them and they struggle hard to reach before time.

 

 

8.       The Social mobility Chaps

Meet the social-mobility lads. They know how to mint their MBA status for everything – money, praise and bride. For them the MBA is a social upliftment tool.

 

 

9.       The Odd Ones

And finally meet the odd ones.
No, no, these are not the back-benchers or the silent ones. These are the ones about whom you wonder, “What are they doing here?” or “Why are they here?” or “How did they make it here?”

Hell, even they don’t know what are they doing in a business school!
