The Supreme Court issued an order recently saying, that Business schools in the country will now retain their autonomy and AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education), will have no role as their regulating authority.

In the year 2013, Education Promotion Society of India (EPSI), that represents more than 500 higher education institutes, filed an application regarding the same and the apex court in its Jan 16 order acted on the application filed by this organization. Contrary to this, University Grants Commission (UGC) had proposed placing PGDM institutions under state-run universities which would further have clipped the autonomy of B-schools.

However, according to a press release by EPSI last week, AICTE is on its way to extend autonomy to institutes offering PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) courses for the academic year 2014-15.

H. Chaturvedi, alternate president of EPSI - in a press statement - said, “This is a big relief for the PGDM institutions that were concerned over the UGC move to put them under state universities. The MBA aspirants and their parents too can rest easy that the admission process will proceed unhindered as in the previous years".
