The voice of management institutes asking for AICTE-approved PGDM courses is growing.

Recently, a meeting of 40 management institutes, conducted by the Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI) at New Delhi on May 19, addressed this growing concern. The institute representatives agreed that AICTE should keep monitoring the current management education system in India.

The meeting, held to discuss the recent SC judgment of declaring AICTE an advisory body, was attended by more than 40 deans and directors. It was presided over by Dr. Pritam Singh, director general, International Management Institute (IMI).

A legal discussion ensued, which brought out that SC’s verdict is applicable only to MBA and MCA programmes of affiliated colleges and doesn’t apply to autonomous PGDM courses.

In this regard, EPSI plans to make a representation to MM Pallam Raju, Union Minister for Human Resource Development, giving concrete suggestions on issues such as quality of research output and faculty development.
