An MBA degree does not come cheap. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that the candidates assess Return on Investment (ROI) of an MBA college before joining it. ROI is the estimated monetary return in terms of salary and perks against the MBA programme fee, a few years into your career. ROI, simply put, is an estimation of how many years will it take to recover the student load, you had taken to pursue MBA. Therefore it is an important factor to determine ranking of a college among its peers.

According to the Business Today Ranking 2019 of top MBA colleges in India for ROI, government institutions rank ahead of popular private institutes. In fact, none of the IIMs or private popular MBA colleges which are among top 25 in overall ranking of Business Today Ranking 2019 found a place in the top 25 for ROI.

In India, IIM Ahmedabad is the top MBA institute in India, but it is FMS, DU, which is ranked as the top MBA colleges in India for best ROI in almost all MBA rankings. This is because the annual fees of MBA programme offered by FMS, DU is Rs 20,960, while the fees of IIM Ahmedabad’s MBA programme is Rs 23 lakh, while the average CTC offered by FMS is Rs 23 lakh per annum, at IIM Ahmedabad, it is Rs 25 lakh per annum. Although, campus placement doesn't reflect the actual ROI, it nonetheless offers a perspective to assess career growth interms of monetary return.

Most of the top ranked colleges for ROI in the Business Today Rankings too are government institutions like FMS-DU, DSE-DU, SIMSREE, AMU and Baroda University. Apart from government colleges, the top 25 list is dominated by private colleges with low fees.
