Q: Congratulations
A: Thank you.
Q: So how are you feeling today?
A: Good.
Q: So tell us something about yourself.
A: I am a foodie. I love watching football. I am pursuing MSC Integrated at IIT Kanpur. I have completed nine semesters and left with the last semester. I have lived in Indore all my life till coming to Kanpur.
Q: What is your area of specialization?
A: Physics.
Q: Was this your first CAT attempt?
A: Yeah.
Q: You scored a perfect 100 in your first attempt!
A: I was lucky enough.
Q: Tell us about your preparation strategy.
A: My strategy was pretty simple. I joined Career Launcher classes at the IIT Kanpur centre. I followed what the teacher there said.
Q: What is the minimum time frame needed to prepare for CAT?
A: I think it particularly depends on the candidate because CAT is language and knowledge and aptitude based. It depends on candidate to candidate. But you can also crack it with one month preparation and or require 8 -10 months as well.
Q: How long did you take?
I began my preparation in June 2014.
Q: What did you do to improve your weak?
I left my weak areas all together. I followed what the teachers at the Career Launcher centre told me. I was asked to prepare according to the new pattern of the CAT exam. I left the sections I was not comfortable with.
Q: Is it important to join a coaching institute?
A: No necessarily, but it is important to have the right attitude towards the exam. And keep taking Mock tests.
Q: What’s your dream institute?
A: If I join an MBA college, it’d be either IIM Ahmedabad or Calcutta. Though, I do not know if I would go for an MBA programme.
Q: Why so?
A: I would like to pursue some venture, try to work in financial start-up sector. Or land a job in a good start-up. The CAT results gives me confidence to pursue what I want.
Q: Any placement offer?
A: No, since I want to join a start-up, I did not sit for placements at IIT Kanpur.
Q: Tell us about your family.
A: My family is in Indore. My father is a professor and mother is a housemaker. Youngest sister is studying architecture in Pune. My grandparents also stay with us.
Q: Tell us more about your hobbies.
A: I like to watch football.
Q: Not play?
A: No. But I like to play FIFA – the computer game. I also like to play squash. I like to read non-fiction books, learn about history. I am also fond of TV series.
Q: What series?
A: Handful of series like Seinfeld, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, etc.
Q: You claim to be a foodie. What do you like?
A: After being in the hostel for so long, I like food from home—anyone’s home. I am fond of traditional dishes like dal-baati. Being an Indori, I love eating poha and kachori.
Q: Any tip for future CAT aspirants.
A: Just be truthful about your preparation and prepare sincerely.
