CAT 2015: No negative marks for non-MCQ questions

There will be no negative marks for non-Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) questions in CAT 2015.

“For questions other than MCQs, three (3) marks have been assigned for ‘correct answer’ and no marks for ‘wrong or no attempt’,” informed the official website.

So far, CAT authorities haven’t disclosed anything about non-MCQ questions such as which sections will contain these questions or anything about the number of questions.

“Tutorial to understand the format of the examination will be available on the CAT website from October 15, 2015. Candidates are advised to work on the tutorials, available on the website, well in advance,” informed CAT authorities.

Also, candidates need to answer in a certain ‘pre-specified order’, which is similar for all CAT 2015 candidates.

CAT 2015 exam will be held on November 29, 2015, in two sessions – forenoon and afternoon. Based on the selection of preferred exam city, candidates will be allotted the session slot and exam centre, subject to availability.

 

 

CAT 2015 exam sections

CAT 2015 will have three sections:

Section I: Quantitative Ability (34 questions): 60 minutes

Section II: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning: (32 questions): 60 minutes

Section III: Verbal Ability: (34 questions): 60 minutes

 

 

CAT 2015 Marking / Scoring Scheme

 

The scoring scheme for multiple-choice questions is as follows:

• For each correct answer, candidates will be awarded three (3) marks.
• For each incorrect answer, one (1) mark will be deducted.
• No marks will be given or deducted for un-attempted questions.

 

The scoring scheme for non-multiple-choice questions is as follows:

• For each correct answer, candidates will be awarded three (3) marks.
• No marks will be given incorrect answer or un-attempted questions.

 

 

CAT 2015 Answering Order

As mentioned above, CAT 2015 will have certain pre-fixed order for each section which candidates have to attempt. Candidates have to attempt three sections within 180 minutes – 60 minutes for each section.  Also, one cannot jump between sections before completing one hour (60 minutes).

CAT is a Computer Based Test (CBT) where candidates read questions on a computer terminal and choose an answer by clicking on the correct option (except non-MCQ questions).

 

CAT 2015 Sample Paper

The mock test or sample paper for the latest CAT 2015 test pattern will be available on the official website.

According to the official website, “CAT 2015 exam does not have a defined syllabus for CAT preparation. However, you can take our mock test to understand the pattern of exam and types of questions. Check the CAT website regularly for the announcement of mock test.”

 

CAT 2015 Normalization

CAT exam will be conducted over two sessions. As per CAT authorities, two different test forms will be administered in the two sessions. Marks scored by candidates will then be subjected to Normalization process.

“The Normalization process to be implemented shall adjust for location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms. After normalization across different forms the scores shall be further normalized across different sections and the scaled scores obtained by this process shall be converted into percentiles for purposes of shortlisting,” states the official website.

CAT Normalization process is similar to the process used by Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
