CAT 2015: Things to remember & some do’s and don’ts
With CAT 2015 being held on November 29, 2015, it is time to get prepared with the things that one will be carrying to the exam centre. Usually, during last minute preparations and haste, candidates often tend to leave the important things they should be carrying and pick up the things that should not be taken to the exam centre – candidates must pay utmost attention to this because they might be exempted from appearing in the exam if they carry any such thing that is a big no-no during the exam.
Shiksha understands the stress faced by the candidates, and in order to ensure that none of the candidates suffer at a later stage, we bring to you a list of things that you must/ must not carry to CAT exam centre.Though strict instructions regarding the do’s and don’ts of the things that must be carried are provided well in advance to the exam takers, they tend to overlook these instructions as they are nervous and are in a situation where they are trying to cope up with the exam pressure.
1. Admit card
To start off with the list of do’s and don’ts, mentioning admit card is of extreme importance. This is the most important document that needs to be carried to the exam centre. If you forget to carry your admit card, there is a strong possibility that you would not be allowed to appear for the CAT 2015 exam. According to the CAT conducting body, carrying the admit card is one of the most strict instructions. Candidates who have still not taken a print out of their admit card must ensure that they do the same on high priority. Make sure you print your admit card only on an A4 size paper using a laser printer only. Once the admit card has been downloaded and a printout of the same has been taken, paste your recent color photograph on the same. Your photograph should match the printed photo on the admit card. DO NOT sign the admit card as the same has to be done only in front of the invigilator.
2. Identity proof
Along with the admit card, it is also important to carry your photo identity proof. As a photo identity proof, a candidate can carry any of the following:
• College ID (must be supported with a valid debit/credit card)
• Employer ID
• Driving License
• Passport
• PAN Card
• Voter ID
• Aadhaar card
• UID
3. Do not carry a calculator
This year, candidates will observe numerous changes in the CAT exam. One of them being provision of on-screen calculator. Since the candidates will have access to on-screen calculators, they do not require/will not be allowed to carry a calculator with them.
Avoid these mistakes while preparing for CAT
4. Do not carry any documents beside admit card and ID proof
Candidates must ensure that they do not carry any other document apart from their admit card and identity proof. According to CAT rules, carrying documents like mark sheets, blank paper or any other document will lead to violation of exam rules and the candidate could be exempted from appearing for the exam.
5. Carry your name change degree document (only if applicable)
In cases where the name of the candidate has been changed due to any event (like marriage, legal name change, divorce), the candidate needs to submit a name change degree document that supports the name change. This document can be a marriage certificate, divorce degree etc. Also, keep in mind to submit a notarised photocopy of the supporting document at the entrance of the test centre.
6. No stationery item is allowed
Since CAT is a Computer Based Test (CBT), candidates are expected to not carry any stationery item. Also, since a pencil and a sheet for doing rough work are provided at the exam centre, candidates are advised to not carry stationery with them. At the max, you can carry a pencil and a pen.
7. Watch or timer not required
Keeping a track of time is extremely important in CAT exam, but you do not need to carry a watch or a timer. The CAT computer system will comprise of an on-screen timer, which will enable you to keep a check on the time limit. Since there will be a provision of a time tracker, there is no additional burden of carrying a watch or timer to the exam centre.
8. No personal items
Candidates must ensure that they do not carry any personal items like bags, purses or mobile phones. Since none of these items are allowed inside the exam hall, the candidates need to leave these items outside the exam premises. Since there would be no care taker of these items, you would have to leave them outside the exam premises at your own risk. If you are carrying a wallet, you can carry the money in your pocket, but would have to leave the wallet outside.
Keep calm and make all your preparations a day before the exam day so that you do not face any trouble when appearing for CAT 2015.
