Since the COVID-19 scare is not over yet, many B-schools may conduct GD/PI rounds for MBA admission 2022 online. Read here key tips to perform well in virtual GD/PI.

As the country is still fighting Coronavirus pandemic, MBA colleges may conduct admission process online even this year. February, March and April are the two months during which maximum MBA institutes conduct GD/PI and other admission procedure. Although the COVID-19 variant Omicron spread is expected to go down by January end, MBA colleges would prefer to be safe than sorry. Many of them have already notified in their 2022 admission policy that the PI round will be conducted online. In many B-schools GD has been replaced by submission of Statement of Purpose or online extempore.

Should the candidates who have prepared for in-person GD/PI be nervous about virtual version of this MBA admission round? The answer is ‘No’. Because, the GD/PI round will be same, questions and topics will be same and parameters of judging the candidate will be same.

February and March are the months in which most of the B-Schools conduct the GD/PI round. Candidates must be prepared for the most decisive round of MBA admission.Shiksha has listed down key tips to appear for GD/PI amid Coronavirus.

Be Prepared Online

Those appearing for GD/PI online through video call or Skype must ensure that the internet connection they are using is fast and uninterrupted. If the speed of internet is bad; you may not be able to connect with the interviewer. You may miss parts of discussion due interruptions in between. Remember, this is an unprecedented situation but you need to be fully prepared to crack the GD and interview.

Check Your Surrounding

Place your laptop/desktop in a well-lit room. Sit facing the light so that your face is clearly visible in the camera. Also, ensure there in no external noise around. You will need full concentration to listen to the interviewer, understand their question and answer with complete clarity.

Plan a Dry Run of Virtual GD/PI

Plan a dry run to avoid any technical glitch during virtual GD/PI. Organise a group video call with your friends and check internet connectivity, sound, lighting, etc. You wouldn’t want to be seen scrambling to fix the arrangement while the interviewers wait for you on the other side.

Focus on Personal Grooming

Don’t think that as you’ll not be physically present in front of the interviewer, clothes won’t matter. You don't want to appear unprepared and non-serious to the interviewers. Remember, personal grooming is an important parameter of judging the candidates for MBA. It reflects ones personality. Get ready before the GD/PI schedule. Wash your face, comb your hair and wear clean clothes.

Coronavirus pandemic is not over yet and we all need to take precautions to be safe. However, if the B-schools stick to in-person GD/PI, one needs to be well-prepared. For candidates who have to visit the college campus for GD/PI, despite Coronavirus scare, they must take following precautions.

  • Wear mask and carry alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Keep distance from others to avoid infection.
  • There is much possibility that due to physical distancing rules, no one will expect you to shake hands; but in case someone puts forward their hand, politely decline and greet verbally (or with folded arms).
  • Do not travel in crowded bus, metro or local trains to reach the GD/PI venue. Take a private taxi or use personal vehicle to reach the venue.
  • If you are not feeling well and showing symptoms of flu, cough and cold; do not participate in GD/PI. Seek permission from the B-school to reschedule your GD/PI.
