In the midst of closed campuses, postponed exams and delayed results, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad enrolled its new batch online. The management institute e-inaugurated the 15th batch of the residential Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (MBA-PGPX). IIM Ahmedabad became the first institution to go for the e-inauguration amid COVID-19 lockdown.
As the institute cannot resume its on-campus activities amid the lockdown due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, it decided to greet the students by IIM-A professors virtually. IIM-A conducted the introductory session over a live video call. The video session was addressed by director Errol D’Souza and the welcome note was given by Viswanath Pingali, chairperson, MBA-PGPX, and Shailesh Gandhi, Dean – Programmes. The new IIM-A MBA-PGPX batch has a total of 140 students, of which 28 per cent are females. According to the data shared by the institute, the number of female students is highest in four years.
The IIM-A also claims that the 2020-21 batch has an average GMAT score of around 690 and a GRE score of 317. The average age is about 31 years and seven months, average total work experience 8.6 years and average international experience approximately a year-and-a-half.
While commenting on the prevailing condition and institute’s decision to enrol the batch online, Professor Viswanath Pingali, chairperson, MBA-PGPX stated, “Keeping in view the overall structure of the programme, we decided to take a small portion of Term 1 online. This will enable the students to hit the ground running when the campus classes eventually begin. Looking at the profile of the current batch, I feel very confident it will take the programme to newer heights.”
