Human Resources (HR) and Tourism are two very diverse fields. While the former involves ideas and programmes to improve better management of staff, its hiring and compensation; the latter, as the name suggests, deals with functioning of the tourism industry.

Like any industry, management is one of the four pillars of Human Resources and Tourism industries too. Let’s take a look at a few aspects of MBA in Tourism and MBA in HR from the perspective of career building in the said fields.

What is Human Resource Management?

Human Resource Management involves of managing ‘people resources’ within the organisation – performance management, employee relations and resource planning.  It deals with hiring, firing, training, and other personnel issues along with industrial and employee relations, delivering and deciding compensation / bonuses, auditing and so forth.

What is Tourism Management?

Tourism Management involves learning the functioning of tourism and hospitality industry. It includes acquiring knowledge about and skills for handling various roles and responsibilities in travel and tourism, food and beverage hospitality and related industries.

The major difference between the two is that while HR is a domain as well as industry, Tourism can only be categorised as industry. This article shares some basic facts about MBA in Tourism and MBA in HR to see how different they are from eaxh others:

Eligibility criteria:

Minimum eligibility criteria for admission to MBA in HR and MBA in Tourism are the same i.e. Graduation or equivalent from a recognized university.

  • Any candidate who has completed Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university or equivalent can apply for admission to both MBA in HR and MBA in Tourism
  • Final year Graduation students are also eligible to apply
  • Most of the institutes accept scores of national level management entrance exams like CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT etc. or conduct their own entrance exam to screen candidates for Group Discussion and Personal Interview or Counselling for admission Check the list of all MBA entrance exams conducted in India
