FT Global MBA Ranking 2018: IIM Ahmedabad slips from Top 30
In the recently released FT Global MBA Rankings for 2018, none of the IIMs have been ranked in the Top 30. Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, which was at 29th position last year, is at 31 in this year’s Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2018. This is IIM Ahmedabad’s downward slide two years in a row. In 2016 the institute was ranked 24th.
However, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore jumped 14 positions to be ranked 35th this year. Last year, IIM Bangalore was ranked 49th. Similarly, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta too gained significant positions to be ranked 78th this year; 17 ranks higher than 2017.

The only Indian institute in the Top 30 is Indian School of Business which has lost one position from 2017 to be ranked 28th.
World’s number 1 business school, according to the FT Global MBA Ranking 2018 is Stanford Graduate School of Business, the US, followed by INSEAD (France/Singapore) at number 2 and University of Pennsylvania: Wharton at number 3. London Business School has been ranked 4th and Harvard Business School has been ranked 5th.
The top 10 ranking includes, University of Chicago: Booth (ranked 6), Columbia Business School (ranked 7), Ceibs, China (ranked 8), MIT: Sloan (ranked 9) and University of California at Berkeley: Haas (ranked 10).
155 B-schools took part in this year’s ranking and were adjudged on the basis of 20 different criteria. The rankings are arrived at after surveying alumni three years after completing their graduation. For 2018 rankings, about 8,300 from the class of 2014 completed the survey — a response rate of 38 per cent, said a release by FT.
Alumni responses to eight criteria contribute 59 per cent of its weight. Eleven criteria are calculated from school data, accounting for 31 per cent of the ranking. The remaining criterion, the research rank, counts for 10 per cent.
The first two alumni criteria are average income three years after graduation and salary increase compared with pre-MBA salary, both weighted at 20 per cent.
