FT Masters in Management Rankings 2017: Top three IIMs slip
IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta have lost several positions from last year in the Financial Times world rankings for Masters in Management.
In the recently released FT Masters in Management Rankings for 2017, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore have lost significant points be pushed out of top 20, while IIM Calcutta has just about managed to stay in the top 30.
IIM Ahmedabad's Post Graduate Programme in Management, which was ranked 16 in 2016, dropped to 21, while IIM Bangalore's Master's programme slipped to 26 from 19. IIM Calcutta’s Post Graduate Programme in Management which was ranked 23 last year, has slipped five positions to be ranked at 28.

The top three IIMs are also placed significantly lower in the Top 100 in the Financial Times (London) Global MBA Ranking 2017, released in January this year.
Meanwhile, Switzerland’s University of St.Gallen has topped the Masters in Management ranking list for the third year in a row. The varsity’s Masters in Strategy and International Management (SIM) programme has been selected as the best overall programme globally followed by HEC Paris’s MSc in Management, IE Business School, Spain’s Masters in Management, London Business School’s Masters in Management and Essec Business School’s MSc in Management have on number 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively.
The Financial Times rankings is based on 17 criteria, of which alumni responses inform seven that together contribute 58 per cent of the total weight. The remaining 10 criteria are calculated from school data and account for 42 per cent of the ranking’s weight.
This year, salary increase has been introduced as a new criterion to rank institutes. This new criterion is based on the average difference in alumni salary between their first MSc-level job after graduation and their current salary (three years after graduation). It has a weight of 10 per cent.
The criterion of career progress is also a new addition and is based on changes in alumni’s level of seniority and the size of the firm they were employed at between graduation and three years after graduation. It has a weight of five per cent.
