How to choose a good college for part-time MBA

MBA offers excellent growth opportunities and promising careers in numerous fields and industries. Even though an MBA degree attracts a huge proportion of candidates, not everyone can afford to pursue full-time MBA. There are a large number of people who are willing to pursue MBA, but are either working, and do not have time to pursue the same or have lack of finances.

Considering the above mentioned situations, there is a course designed for such people – part-time MBA. There are numerous business schools offering part-time MBA courses, which provide aspirants with the same qualification as a full-time MBA degree. However, only applying and pursuing part-time MBA is not enough. It is important to choose a college that offers you a course according to your requirements.

Here are a few things one must keep in mind while choosing a college for part-time MBA:

  • Affiliation & recognition

When deciding on a college for pursuing part-time MBA, make sure you select a college that is    well recognised and is affiliated to a credible university. It is extremely important to know whether the B-school is government-funded or private – not all colleges have the authority to run a part-time course. A college’s accreditation/affiliation can be checked on its official website, brochure or by speaking directly to the college’s admission officer.

  • Duration of the course & classes

Before getting enrolled in a part-time course, enquire about the duration of the course as well as the classes. If you are a working professional, it is extremely important for you to know about the college schedule. Knowing this in advance will help you strategise your career plan with the entire course plan. Along with the duration of the course, it is equally important to know about the timings of the class (are they flexible or not). It is important to know whether the class timings will match with your unoccupied time or not. Also, one should know that in case he/she misses a class, how and when is it possible to catch up with the course.

  • Faculty

A college is known by its faculty. Make sure you check the experience of the teachers teaching in the college. Every specialisation should be taught by a different teacher. The college brochure and website contains information of the same – make sure you check it. Also, if possible, get in touch with the alumni and enquire about the teaching process. Moreover, collect information on whether the faculty is available beyond class timings or not, and how interactive they are with the students.

  • Study assistance

Provision of self- instructional study materials certainly makes the life of students simple – gather information on this. Also, check if the college offers virtual classes/online support, access to online library and sample papers. Another important aspect that one should look out for is whether the college is following the latest curriculum or not – the college must update its curriculum on a regular basis.

  • Fee

Knowing about the overall program fee is of utmost importance. Firstly, check the total program fee, and then check whether the fee includes study material charges or not. Check the facilities that are a part of the fee mentioned by the college. Once you have a fair idea of the total expenditure, plan your budget. Next, see if you can pay the pay the fee of each semester on time or not. Planning in advance will save you from a financial crunch.

  • Placement

Firstly, check whether the college has a placement cell or not. If yes, look for the participating companies and the packages offered to the students. This information can be gathered from the alumni or you can also check the placement report of the college. If the students are offered a handsome amount from reputed companies, you can consider enrolling in the college.

  • Exam flexibility

Lastly, always keep in mind that you will have to appear for the exam in order to complete the course successfully. Considering the same, check out the centres where you can appear for the exam – the location should be preferable. Also, check if the college offers you the flexibility of appearing for the exam according to your preference.

Make sure you keep in mind all the above mentioned parameters while selecting a college for part-time MBA.
