Tips for SNAP prep

Most candidates attempting Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) test will also take various other MBA entrances tests such as CAT, IIFT, NMAT, CMAT and so on. SNAP aspirants will get the chance to appear for CAT, NMAT and IIFT exams beforehand. Therefore, the performance pressure for SNAP will be much lower.

Also, SNAP exam is traditionally known to be one of the easy MBA exams as compared with the other national-level exams like CAT, XAT, and CMAT. It is mostly the test of basic concepts.

One of the most important differences between SNAP and CAT exams is general knowledge (GK).

SNAP exam has four sections with the following weights:

Section

Marks

General English: Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, Verbal Ability

40

Quantitative Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency

40

General Awareness: General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Business Scenario

40

Analytical & Logical Reasoning

60

Total

180

Let’s look at the preparation strategy for each section individually:

English

Like other MBA exams, SNAP has questions on grammar section, verbal ability and so on. The preparation strategy is no different from CAT and other exams. Just focus on covering all the basics and then attempt sectional timed tests.

QA, DI & DS

In this section too, candidates need no separate preparation strategy, if one is already practicing for CAT. Some of the topics that students should cover are time, distance, work, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data sufficiency, HCF &LCM, venn diagrams and so on.

General Knowledge

The truth is, there is no shortcut for GK preparation. One needs to keep a track of daily news and follow opinions. For static GK, candidates can refer to any GK book such as  Manorama year book, Competition Success Review, etc. Newspapers and news apps are a good way to prepare for the exam. Candidates should brush up facts related history, economics, acronyms, sports, politics and science & technology.

A & LR

In Logical Reasoning, candidates can receive questions from a wide range of topics such as puzzles, number, letters, verbal analogies, series coding and decoding, blood relations, non-verbal reasoning, etc. Under Analytical Reasoning, one can get deductions, connectives, missing pieces and so on.

Selection of Questions

Every wrong answer attracts 25% negative marks (of the question). Therefore, candidates should select wisely before attempting questions. The good thing is that there is no sectional time limit. One can switch between sections easily. So go through the entire question paper before beginning to attempt.

Mock Tests

Candidates seriously targeting the exam should take at least 10 mocks before appearing for SNAP. This will give them a hang of the paper pattern and accordingly, develop an exam strategy.
