IIMs guard against CAT 2013 score tampering

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) hosted the CAT results on the servers of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) this year. This was done after reports of score tampering emerged last year.

IIM-Indore conducted the CAT exam in 2013 and M. Vinayak Rao the state informatics officer of Madhya Pradesh revealed that the state-owned organization, NIC were the hosts for the CAT 2013 results.

IIM Indore professor and CAT 2013 convenor, Rohit Kapoor, shared that this year the results declaration process was almost glitch free. The only problem that was reported was that students who had very long email IDs were not able to log in and check their results. However, this issue was resolved within a few hours of being intimated.

On CAT 2013 results, senior technical director at NIC, Bhopal, Sanjay Hardikar, was quick to share that the national informatics centre’s platform was well-equipped to handle up to a million users visiting on the first day and so no error occurred.

Last year, shiksha.com reported about a scandal that broke out, after scores of around 80 students were tampered on a private website (www.catiim.in) which led to inflation in scores for these candidates. This was quickly pointed out and revealed that this was a technical error since the test IDs were not in any particular order.

Although by this score tampering, the IIMs were not affected directly but other B-schools such as FMS (Faculty of Management Studies) at Delhi University and BIMTECH (Birla Institute of Management Technology) at Noida, who conduct admissions on the basis of CAT scores, were hugely affected.
